Rupert Hoare 1st February 1956 - 20th September 2011
A walk has now been planned for Saturday 5th November, the day after Rupert's memorial service in Chichester: see details below.
Rupert died at Roxburghe House, Aberdeen, early on Tuesday 20th September, eight months after the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Within the first six months, Rupert had written his book “Mountain Views” for friends and family. During this time, he and Jay made short trips to see family and WesternGeco / Schlumberger colleagues and explored new coastal areas in Scotland with friends: Orkney, the Fife coast and Galloway. In addition Rupert and Jay enjoyed many visits from family and friends at home and in Aberdeen.
Rupert’s Memorial Service will take place on Friday 4th November at 2.30pm in St Paul’s Church, Churchside Chichester PO19 6FT and afterwards at the Church Hall. http://www.stpaulschichester.org There is some parking at the Church itself and more at the nearby Chichester Theatre (paying) car park to the north. Chichester railway station is on the south side of the town, just within walking distance. Donations at this service will be to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. (PO Box 47432, London, N21 1XP)
PLEASE CONTACT JAY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND THE MEMORIAL SERVICE AS THE CATERERS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW NUMBERS
On Saturday 5th November there will be a walk on the South Downs for all friends who would like to walk about 9 miles. Graham Elson has very kindly planned a gentle route starting at Chalton village. Meet at the (free) public car park GR 731 161 (not the pub car park). Post Code approx PO8 0BG. It is about 4 miles north of Havant. Be ready to walk at 10.30am. We will walk north through the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, have lunch in Buriton village (Grid Ref 740 200) and walk back to Chalton via a different route. Lunch in a pub or sandwiches on the move.
