The Four Highest Cairngorms day tour - 1st April 2013

Start and Finish at Cairngorm car park.  No uplifts used. Cairngorm, Ben Macdui, Cairn Toul, Braeriach.  A cold SE wind and clear most of the day, apart from brief cloud cover on Ben Macdui.  Temp.-5C.  Snow surface was crystalline hoar structures from Cairngorm to Ben Macdui and down the Taillear Burn, magical stuff. The all round snowscape panorama from Cairn Toul was exceptional. The snow surface was completely different across the Braeriach plateau, made up of scoured hard ice sasstrugi ruts, ski rattlin stuff.  This continued on the descent all way down from Sron na Lairige in to the Lairig Ghru, then a tedious ski carry up to, and  through Chalmain Gap, with an Alpen Glow and twinkly stars to finish.
