Travel to Chamonix

Travel to Chamonix

Chamonix doesn't present itself as a good place to get to by rail, as the connections from Paris are indirect. Once you are in the valley, the Mont Blanc railway is a tremendous way to get up and down it (and to Martigny and the Rhone valley).

There are a couple of ways to make the journey by using coach/transfer services as well as rail:

  • Travel by rail to Geneva via Paris, getting off at Geneva Aeroport rather than the city itself (see Valais section for more detail). Then, organise one of the many transfer services that will take you from the airport direct to your hotel/chalet.

OR

  • Avoid Paris by taking the Eurostar to Lille, and then taking a TGV to Lyon. This is so comfortable, as it only involves changing platforms at Lille. If you are a large party, it will be quite affordable to pre-book a transfer minibus to take you from Lyon direct to your destination (e.g. with Get Transfer).
If there are only one or two of you, take the train on to Bellegarde, and arrange a transfer from there. This will be more expensive than the Geneva transfer, but the overall journey will be affordable and delightful - London to Chamonix in comfort!

There are also coach services from London. This is the budget way to do the journey.
