Has anyone got any experience / advice re using the Jungfaujoch railway to start / finish tours?
I am planning to use it to start an Oberland tour, most likely with a one-way ticket and the intention to eventually ski out via Blatten. However, I also wondered about an entirely different finish, and using the railway to return down to Grindelwald.
The ticket information is hard to decipher, it seems entirely orientated to visitors who will descend after a few hours visiting the attractions. I can't see if a return has a validity that will last for e.g. a week. Does anyone know about using it for these options?

I have used it for both access and egress, but many years ago so I don't know the current ticket options. However, my advice would be not to buy a return unless it is a lot cheaper than two singles, in case weather or snow conditions mean a change of plan.

We did something similar last April. Left a car at Goppenstein and got the train from there to the Jungfraujoch. One way ticket to the top. Not cheap, I have a vague memory of 100 SF (bought from a ticket machine in the station). We were able to use the new telecabine from Grindelwald (so avoiding Kleine Scheidegg). We finished the tour by skiing down the Lotschental (good ski) to Blatten and catching a bus back to Goppenstein.

Hi Nick. They used to sell a round tour ticket Interlaken/Jungfraujoch/Goppenstein/Interlaken but you could only buy it in Interlaken. It wasnt advertised and you had to ask for it. Still cost a fortune but much cheaper than the individual parts.
The Jungfraujoch/Lötschenlüke ski tour is like a swiss version of the Vallee Blanche (though with an uphill section) so I would think this ticket is still available.

I take it you can rock up at the upper station and buy a single ticket down? I know this sounds a silly or trivial quesiton but I wondered if it would be like a 'penalty fare' or the same as if you bought it in advance / in the valley?

Thanks to everyone who posted replies - I've got my head round this now! I found SBB.ch is the best location to obtain info on single tickets.
We will finish our tour via a descent to Blatten as that is most appealing aesthetically.
