Tour Training

A group of friends are looking at completing the Haute Route in April 2025. We are all confident skiers at varying levels. As much as some, like myself have had previous ski tour experience, its been a few years and we are all a bit rusty. Our plan is to build up training towards Apr 25, commencing with a group (6 to 8 of us) back to basics 4 days training in early Jan 24. I am looking at recommendations of trainers/comapnies etc that could run some group training for us and assist with future developing training as well. Thanks in advance.

Hi John,

Are you looking to the HR with a guide or self-led? Obvs self-led needs a bigger skill set than guided. For both options I would consider the 2day training options at the club meet(s) as a starter, if the whole team wants to train together then it might be worth considering the UIAGM guides who already do such stuff for the club.

Good luck

ps IMO there are much better ways of re-launching your ski touring career than aiming for the HR. It is truly a great trip, but can be busy and there are equally good, some would say better, routes. Many other opinions exist...

Hello - I'd second the 2 day training sessions on the Argentiere meet in Jan.

As a competent skier but newbie tourer I did the glacier travel and ski/snow safety last year.  Subject matter and practical skills training was superb, but also the benefit of getting some top notch coaching on technique while skiing and touring in some great places was actually the best bit.  You've also got the added bonus of the opportunity to go out on days tours with other Eagles, time permitting.
