Weekend Meets, ideas and plans

I am now the new Weekend Meets Secretary, following my election at the AGM.  My remit relates to those meets outside the skiing season, usually in England and Wales.

If you have an interesting idea for a weekend meet, or would like to run one, please contact me.

It would be great for the club to visit new venues, parts of the country, or enjoy new activities.  Canoeing on the Wye, caving in Yorkshire, surfing in Cornwall or any other interesting activity would make a good weekend, so if you have knowledge, expertise, enthusiasm or good contacts, let me know.  In some cases instruction would be essential.  Your personal knowledge of group accommodation, especially in areas other than Snowdonia or the Lakes would be appreciated.  Its fun to visit different places, and they don’t all have to be in the high mountains, provided there is something interesting to do locally.  Particularly useful are venues where there is no large up front cost to the club, booking 10 places at £20 is bad news, if only 3 people book.

The idea of the meets is to let members meet outside the skiing season, hopefully do something active, socialise and have plenty of fun.  If you are a new member, it is a great way to get to know other members and feel part of the club.

Either put your ideas on the forum, or contact me direct at meetsec@eagleskiclub.org.uk

Many of the popular meets will continue, including the summer Lake District Meet, to the Robertson Lamb Hut in Langdale on weekend of 1st - 2nd June, and the August Bank Holiday Snowdonia Meet to the NLMC Hut in Capel Curig.  Other popular meets are subject to confirmation.

Note: the Lake District Meet is a month earlier than usual, because of hut availability.

It is anticipated that there will be a training meet in the autumn, featuring navigation and GPS use.
