Has anyone recently ski toured in the Bernina and approached the Piz Palu and Piz Bernina via the Morteratsch Glacier. This glacier is known to be difficult and i would apprecaite any up to dated information on condition of the galcier in terms of a route to access these mountains.

Thanks

Hi Graham,

When I was there in June some years ago ski-tourers were accessing Piz Palu & Piz Bernina by skiing down to the glacier from the Diavolezza lift/hut.

Hi Graham, I was there in the April 2013, it was snowing and stormy, some people set off when the visibility cleared. They appeared to be heading fore Piz Bernina. We decided it was much too soon after a dump of a half metre of snow. We opted to ski out down the Morteratsch Glacier from the Daivolezza hut. It was quite straight forward with good visibility. We skied directly to the station at Morteratsch.

Can email you a couple of photos if you wish.

Hi Graham -

Is this too late to be useful? In any case, you've probably looked at the online Yearbooks?

We were there in 2009 ( http://www.eagleskiclub.org.uk//yearbook-articles/2009/bernina ), and we skied down from the Marco e Rosa through the Buch to Morteratsch, AND went up Piz Palu from the Diavolezza, and descended to Morteratsch. Read the yearbook, but of course, it may be worse now!
